Some additional Inktober drawings

Here are some additional Inktober drawings that I have completed this month. I did decide after starting to not follow the prompts. I did complete at least 31 sketches. Remember when doing a challenge, it is meant for you to grow. With that being said, sometimes you have to change your focus and that’s ok. I hope you enjoy some of my additional drawings.

Mini Pocket Card/ Book Alice in Wonderland

Check out the video of my Alice in Wonderland Mini Pocket Card/ Book. The cards are ATC size. I took a third of a trading card sleeve to create card/ book. Each ATC is on card stock and characters are colored in prismacolor pencils. The characters were inspired by the art of Lily Chilvers. The backgrounds were created with Tim Holtz stencils and distress inks. I have added some fibers from my stash. On the outside I used washi tape. I added a tag and a mini bottle. I have tucked the card into a mini envelope. My niece is going to be so happy. She is going to be our Alice for Halloween! Mini Pocket Card video

Inktober Day 12

Today's Inktober prompt is shattered and the only thing I could think of was my husband's iPhone. I rounded the corners of my ATC card and it really was a good representation of the iPhone shape. I let the white paper work for me. I drew the lines in with a micron but used a sharpie for the large black space. The sharpie worked well because as I was inking the white, I did not like my beginning sketch and I just covered it with black sharpie. I completed the shatter with a white gel pen.
It represents my hubby's phone but I believe his is more shattered.

Inktober Day 11

Since I was already in the Art Studio, I decided to do the day 11 prompt so I would be up to date. Today's prompt is run. I am doing these ink drawings on ATC cards size so they are small.
I also have company in the studio today. My grumble of pugs and my husband. They are pictured below. As you can see they are contemplating what to do next!

Inktober 2017

I have been in participating in Inktober. It is an great opportunity to practice your inking daily in the month of October. Although I haven't posted any pics of my cards yet this month, I thought I would start today. This has  international participation with varying levels of artists who participate. In one of your social media platforms type in #inktober or #inktober2017 and you can see a plethora of inked pieces. This activity builds a muscle memory by participating every day. Last year, I created Ferdinand Flamingo in different pics depicting the daily prompt. It helped me explore him as a character. They say practice makes perfect. I don't know about perfect but by stretching the positions Ferdinand had to take, I began to know my character very well.

So Day 10 is gigantic and I drew that mischievous Cheshire Cat! I used micron and sharpies for the black. Spectrum Noir markers for the color and a gel pen for the white highlights in the eyes. I think I probably should have gone darker on the inside of the mouth but I like the concept.

Skeleton and Skulls Swap

I completed and sent off my cards for the Skeletons and Skulls swap I joined. I created the same style card but with different designs. These cards were hand drawn. I decided to draw sugar skulls. I created 3 for the swap and 1 for the host. I used pen and ink and watercolors to create them. This is the first time I have ever drawn a sugar skull and enjoyed it immensely.

Jack O'Lantern Swap

I mailed my Jack O'lantern swap ATC cards. I have been away from trading and this was my first sign up. I created 4 cards, 3 to swap and 1 for the host. I made all the cards the same but they were hand drawn. I used dimensional tape to give the card depth. It is a pumpkin style that I drew when my kids were young. I stenciled the background and added fibers for texture.

The Old Schoolhouse Studio Into

A Little Intro.

After 16 years as an educator in elementary schools, I moved away from the city and the beach to this 1928 schoolhouse in a national forest. That is right, we made our home an actual Schoolhouse completed with auditorium and stage. There is quite a bit of renovation that has to be done but it is a project me and my husband were ready for.

As part of this move my husband encouraged me to write and illustrate a children's book which has always been a dream. My first book was published in December of 2016, Will Ferdinand Find a Friend? My second book, Ginger Likes... was published in the summer of 2017. I continue to write and illustrate my next book. More information about my books can be found at uglydogcreations.com .

In my Old Schoolhouse, there was a room that still has some of the original slate rock that was a chalkboard. It was to become my Studio for art and writing. The original windows span the outside wall and this room overlooks a national forest. It provides true inspiration. If fact my first book features animals that a native to this area. It is 750 sq feet, so there is plenty of room to built a true studio.

After being here for just over a year, I have started to venture back into the online art community learning paper crafts, joining ATC swaps, drawing and painting and more. It is freeing to be able to have a place to explore my art and not have to put it away.

I started this personal blog to document the journey I have started. I expect that my blog will consist of posts around art, scrapbooking, altered art, trading art/swaps, the renovation of the Schoolhouse, my grumble of pugs and anything else I encounter.

If you have stopped by, I say welcome. Check back to see new posts on my progress.
